Omkara : A Bollywood Masterpiece

A lot has been written over Omkara (imdb, Wiki, rediff column) across the blogosphere, still can't resist adding my own musings after watching the movie.
1) Vishal Bahrdwaj : Absolutely brilliant versatile person. Wonderful screenplay, crisp dialogs, and music
2) Saif Ali Khan : This is definitely the best performance of his career. Plays wily character of Langadaa Tyaagi and goes into the soul of it.
3) Kareena : disappointing Gudiyaa kind of role, just taken for color of her skin ? Deadpan expressions where she got the opportunity in at least 2 scenes (one while explaining her love about Omi to Bhaisaab and the last one when Omi asks about her affair with Kesu. Her incompetence is impossible to ignore).
4) Vivek Oberoi : Just smiling
5) Ajay, Naseer and Konkona: Great in their roles, convincing and brilliant.

Music : Very few bollywood movies have narrative songs, this is one of them

Indian Audience and Indian female audience: Don't think so that it will become a great hit as Fanaa etc all. Majority of indian crowds who like saas-bahu-baby, family, love dramas by johars and chopras won't like this movie at all. Negative tragic ending and profane, raw language won't be accepted by Indian female audience. Movie is not definitely for "family" audience and kids. But why care about them, go watch it !

Moments to remember : Usually even good movies have 3-4 sequences which you will easily remember. This one has too many
i) Shart ghodon pe lagaate hain, sheron pe nahin ! - Sequence
ii) Jag Ja song and its sad version repeat in the end
iii) Election negotiations on the truck scene
iv) Dolly's body gently swinging on the same swing she made love to Omkara on. The silence at that point when all you can hear is the creaking of the swing. The end where Omi's corpse is under the same swing.
v) The river-dam scene of Langadaa and Rajju
vi) Langda's numerous lying scenes
vii) Crisp and rustic dialogues throughout the movie

All said, movie is definitely worth a watch !
